Watch the trailer and Mark Kermode's brief review - he identifies some of the key elements of genre we should consider.
key scenes
Watch and analyse the key scenes using the key micro-elements of film form. Remember that the focus for analysis is always to identify meaning and response. You need to consider the contexts of the film - social, cultural, production, where it is set, when it is set and the environment in which the story takes place. You also need to consider the representations of the characters. Remember that this is a story about children which just happens to feature a vampire - not the other way around.
Think of this as a teen / coming of age film which handles many of the issues which teenagers and nearly teenager go through. Isolation, first love/attraction, bullying, poor communication with parents, feeling odd or different from others.
